A LETTER FROM MOMMY TO LILY (2018)
Our sweetheart girl,
On the day you were born, our lives forever changed.
You made us parents, and added a whole new dimension to our existence.
Your arrival was a challenge, but from the moment you joined us, we felt joy like never before. On that warm July day, your daddy and I were so excited to finally see your little face.
Daddy and I have so many hopes and dreams for you, but the most important one is that you are able to reach your full potential. We want you to find your purpose, be happy and to experience wonderful friendships, love, adventure, and success. We know that you will also likely experience failure, disappointment & heartbreak. We want you to be resilient, to be able to pick yourself up and to know that we will always be here to love and support you, no matter what.
We can already see that you have a strong personality. (All of the most interesting people do!) We hope that you can use all that personality for your benefit, while being self aware, helping and encouraging others, being a supportive teammate, partner, colleague, leader and friend. Always try to be yourself. Mommy & Daddy are very proud of you!
We want you to understand how important communication is. Be patient and truly listen to people. Try to always value openness and clarity. Always try to say what you mean, and mean what you say. Your words are powerful, so remember to use them wisely.
We want you to be brave, and to try new things, but we want you to be safe and smart with the choices you make. Try to stand up for what is right, to try to do “the next best thing”, and to own up when you’ve made a mistake. That’s how we learn & grow. Surround yourself with people that encourage and inspire you. You have a great big family, but remember that true friends are like family you choose.
I want you to know how much you are loved. We honestly have a hard time putting it into words, it’s more like an overwhelmingly strong squeezing sensation!
With all the love two hearts can muster,
Mommy & Daddy (2018)
